Valeska's Story:

My studentv Valeska (upper intermediate level) wrote the following story:

Alice and Mary recently moved to a new city, where they planned to work as nurses at the local hospital. It was a lovely day in the area, so they decided to go for a walk in the forest nearby. They asked around for a good spot to go to, but the people in town did seem scared of the area.

 They walked for five miles and settled down on a clearing and they spent hours talking and laughing. Suddenly, they became very tired and, in that moment, a mysterious fog fell on them. When they woke up it was dark, so they headed back to their car, but they soon realized the fog had increased and was very difficult to walk in it.

All of a sudden, they heard a voice coming from the trees, it was very soft and incomprehensible to their ears. They went to see where it was coming from and soon, they found a group of people around a fire pit. They were covered with black clothes and had animals with them. They were dancing in a strange way. The women were about to ask them for help but the main figure, a very tall man, grabbed a cat and killed the poor thing. They did not see what happened next, because Alice got scared and screamed very loudly and both decided to run away from the place.

When morning came, they were able to find the car to go back to town, but when they tried to talk to people about what they saw at the forest, everybody just laughed about it, saying that outsiders always exaggerate things.

But every night after that, they could see lights and smoke coming from the forest. And they decided to never go back to the place again.
